Bike to Work: Townie Commute Go!

Recently, I fell in love. It wasn’t love at first sight, more of a slow burn. I was immediately attracted, but it took some time to make an approach. In fact, it took months and I was so glad that I finally went for it. After our first date, I knew this was the one for me. I even showed my new love to my wife and believe it or not, she was thrilled.

My crush is the Electra Townie Commute Go! This is a bike that just makes too much sense. It’s got utility with its 700c tires, standard front and rear racks and lights. Best of all... it has a motor. It's an e-bike. Here’s the thing, I don’t need a motor. I’m a fit guy that has no problem riding a bike, but the added support flattens out pesky hills on my ride to and from work. I don’t need to wear a special outfit, I can wear my regular work clothes and don’t even need to shower when I get to my destination. My normal commute to work in a car takes about 20 minutes. My ride to work on the Townie Commute Go! is the same 20 minutes. It enables me to get outside, get a little exercise, have a frustration free commute and save some money on gas. Those are all wins in my book.

I’m in a constant state of driving my kids to school, their different activities and over to their friends' houses. Commuting to work on this wonderful new bicycle breaks the pattern. I live in dense area so the traffic is consistently bad and many trips are planned around traffic. Riding this bike to work is a life-changing respite from the day to day grind of being in the car. Plus, I chuckle to myself every time I pass someone on a road bike as I’m cruising up a hill.

I’m getting about 30 miles on one charge, which enables me to get back and forth to work for a couple of days as the distance is 5.2 miles. I can fully charge the battery from dead in just about five hours. I love to ride it down to the farmer’s market to pick up some fresh produce and meat. The ring lock that comes standard is perfect for a quick ride to the market. One of the coolest things is that the key stays in the lock when I’m riding so I never worry about losing it. That same key works for the battery too, so there's no worry about keeping track of two keys.

I’ve had a bunch of friends and family take the Townie Commute Go! for a test spin and the overwhelming response is written right on their face: an ear to ear grin. Everybody wants one because they are that much fun to ride. The combination of utility and a sweet ride is tough to beat.
